Healthy skin starts with a healthy barrier. Explore the skin barrier science behind ZEROID's skincare approach — from the skin barrier itself to our proprietary MLE® and Defensamide™ technologies.
The outermost layer of skin is built like a brick wall: corneocytes form the bricks, while lipids fill the spaces between them like mortar. It helps hold moisture in and keep skin feeling comfortable.
Skin lipids — ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids — form an ordered, multi-lamellar structure. The healthier the skin, the denser and more orderly this arrangement becomes. When skin is dry or sensitive, ceramides may be reduced. Ceramides and ingredients that resemble skin lipids help keep skin moisturized and comfortable.
Built with Neopharm's proprietary Ceramide-9S, MLE® forms a multi-lamellar structure similar to that found in healthy skin. It helps reduce moisture loss and leaves dry, sensitive skin feeling moisturized and comfortable.
This is often linked to reduced ceramides in the skin's lipid barrier, which can make skin feel drier and more reactive over time.
The skin-lipid-like complex in ZEROID helps support the skin's natural barrier, helping it stay hydrated and comfortable throughout the day.
With a stronger barrier, skin retains moisture more effectively and feels more comfortable.
Under a polarized-light microscope, skin lipids dispersed in water reveal a distinctive cross-shaped pattern known as the “Maltese cross.” ZEROID's MLE® formula displays a Maltese-cross pattern consistent with a lamellar (multi-layered) organization.
Healthy skin holds up well against daily stress — but as the barrier weakens, so does that resilience. Defensamide™ helps skin stay comfortable, even when faced with everyday wear and tear.

Defensamide™ helps support the skin's natural resilience.
A well-supported barrier helps skin stay calm and comfortable, no matter what the day brings.
