The stratum corneum & skin lipids
The outermost layer of skin is built like a brick wall: corneocytes form the bricks, while lipids fill the spaces between them like mortar. It helps hold moisture in and keep skin feeling comfortable.
Skin lipids — ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids — form an ordered, multi-lamellar structure. The healthier the skin, the denser and more orderly this arrangement becomes. When skin is dry or sensitive, ceramides may be reduced. Ceramides and ingredients that resemble skin lipids help keep skin moisturized and comfortable.
Multi-Lamellar Emulsion
